- On Sunday, February 9, 2003 – Pongal (Sankranthi) was held.
. - On Sunday, February 4, 2001 – Pongal was held.
NAMA LA chapter celebrated Pongal (Sankranthi) in grand scale at the residence of Vijaya and Ranganath on 02/04/01. The function started with the recitation of Vishnu Sahasranamam followed by an exciting program by the children. Indu,Preethi Kannan and Kanthi,Kiran Athreya sang Sri Andal’s Tiruppavai. Radha Rangarajan gave a wonderful discourse on Sri Andal. The function concluded with sattumurai,pallandu and dinner. . - On Sunday, March 16, 2003 – Charad Pandige was held.
NAMA charad pandige was celebrated on March 16th at the Bridge Water Temple Recreation hall. About 50 people attended the function. The function started with chantings of Vishnusahashranama and Pooja conducted by DR.M.G.Prasad. Then ‘ade or “muru Dose’ was prepared for offering to Lord. Men tied charad to their wives; mothers tied charad to their children; and friends tied to other ladies. It is very interesting to note that there are different traditions for this festival. In some parts of Madras, men are not supposed to come for this event, since each lady ties her own charad. We followed the Karnataka tradition, since both men and women can participate in the event – the more the merrier. Children participated in the fancy dress competition and each participant was awarded with a storybook. Thanks to Dipti Coorg who organized and sponsored the event. Sharada Vynatheya and Geetha Sridhar were busy making hot dosa on the grills and making delicious ades. Food was made by several volunteers. Some NAMA members sent their food items -even though they could not attend the event. It was really so nice to see these types of gestures from our NAMA members. We got new volunteers for future New Jersey events. -Dipti Coorg,Anu Nandakumar. We also got new committee members for our national committee from Jaya Jwalipuram, Vanitha Madoor and Sharada Vynatheya. Gopal Chari brought his digital camera and was instrumental in creating pictures for the photo Gallery. Thanks to everyone for making the event so memorable. . - On Saturday, September 8, 2001 – Gokulashtmi 2001 was held.
. - On Sunday, March 18, 2001 – Charad Pandige was held.
Charad was celebrated at Goda & Ravi Dattatreya’s house in Summit, NJ. Everyone partcipated in chantings. All the women tied the the yelllow thread around their neck. Just as in Mysore tradition,the traditional dish of two dosas with sweet Hoornam in between -called “Muru Dose” was prepared by several members. The food was delicious. About 50 people attended the function. . - On Saturday, July 21, 2001 – Thiruvadipuram was held.
. - On Saturday, May 5, 2001 – Narsimha Jayanthi was held.
Narasimha Jayanthi was celebrated in a grand way at the Hindu temple kalyana mantapam, Flushing, ny (new building). About 150 people attended the function. . - On Sunday, April 13, 2003 – Ram Navmi Celebrations was held.
The function went very well at the temple. RamarPattabhishekam at Memphis temple was attended by about 200 devotees. All devotees were served prasadam at 1:00 pm on 13 th. Some of the members who took part in the cooking were Bhama & K.P Sridharan, Sala and Tyagarajan, Kaualya Murali, Vijaya Subramony, Kanaka Vasudevan, Leela Vasamsetty, Meena. .
